Collection: Marcia Derse
Marcia Derse is an established modern fiber artist and fabric designer who has spent the last two decades honing and perfecting her techniques for creating highly unique, hand-dyed, and hand-painted textiles. Now a celebrated designer for Windham Fabrics, Marcia brings a completely fresh and innovative vocabulary of color, form, and texture to the global quilting and crafting communities.
Operating from her creative studio on Whidbey Island in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, Marcia approaches her work as a fine artist. She begins every design on a blank canvas—a simple bolt of muslin fabric, utilizing raw dyes and primary-colored silkscreen paints. Drawing inspiration from the world around her, Marcia gathers striking colors, images, and objects from both outdoors and inside her studio. She transforms unconventional items like pine cones, spoons, homemade stamps, and bamboo pens into artistic tools, applying paint with absolute abandon to exhaust every cup of color.
While each individual piece of fabric stands alone as a fresh arrangement of texture, Marcia masterfully curates her standalone works into harmonious, concept-driven collections. Her central design themes are inspired by the changing seasons, her global travels, or a fascinating new texture discovered in her immediate environment.
A frequent mainstay at the country’s most prestigious fabric shows and art fairs, Marcia is known for her enticing, creatively designed exhibition booths. She debuts her brilliant artistry at Windham Fabrics with two highly anticipated collections, Palette and Mosaic, inviting makers to explore her distinctive world at www.MarciaDerse.com.
